My first drawing done for the LotR fandom dates back to 2002. I don't remember the exact date, but it must've been the end of the year... most of the drawings from that period (if signed at all) are from 2003 onward. That means that I've been in that fandom for more than four years. And it's been a good time. Very inspired, even if at times RL forced me to take a lengthy break from the Elves and online life. Until at some point in December last year, while pondering the Christmas greeting card for my friends, I realized that something had changed. Elves wouldn't come easily anymore. I started having problems to draw them, to imagine them. My muses stopped speaking to me...
I put off the decision for many weeks, but I finally had to face it - my Elves had sailed into the West, without promise of ever being back. So, although this made me sad, I decided to accept that. It gave me the chance (and strength to actually follow through with the decision) to wrap the site that was dedicated solely to Elves, to take "Menegroth Revisited" offline, and to see where my paths and pencils would lead me... Always hoping that the many friends I made will be curious enough to follow me.
But of course, no site I build would be complete if I simply ignored the many, many Elves I drew, and the hundreds of pictures that allowed me to meet fellow Elf fanciers and squee with them. As I said, it's been a wonderful time ~ I wouldn't miss it for anything in the world. And, as so often the case when you let things go instead of trying to force them, problems solve themselves - and more smoothly than you might have expected.
So, here on this page is a selection of personal favourites and examples from the different 'periods' of style... but also new stuff that, surprisingly, I really felt like painting. The Elves needed a break, just like me ~ but after a while they, too, realised it was nice and to renew the friendship. There's no saying when there will be new pictures, or what it will be... but from now on I'll know better than to declare something gone before it really is. :)
