"Maglor and the Sons of Elwing", G

A drawing that goes with Silmarillion canon. There it is said that the sons of Elwing came to live with Maglor and Maedhros after the attack that promted their mother to flee with the Silmaril. I do not consider myself a canon fanatic - in fact (aside from believing that all fanatism is bad) I couldn't care less for detailed research when I simply want to draw a scene that moves or touches me or that I am inspired to draw...

I don't pretent to illustrate the Silmarillion ~ actually, every single reader has their own images of how the scenes Tolkien describes looked. And I'm certainly not trying to pretend that I'm up to the challenge of bringing to life Tolkien's work. So all you get is a small peaceful scene in not so peaceful times.

Some of what is to come is hinted at, i.e. the boat in little Elros' hands and little Elrond being fascinated by Maglor and his harp ~ and the book and horse on the floor behind him. Because those banners, swords and shields will not hang on that wall forever...
