"Knight of the Golden Flower", Glorfindel of Gondolin, G
Indian ink and watercolours
Of all the Elves in Tolkien's writing, none has inspired me more than Glorfindel - both in his Gondolin and his Imladris incarnation. For a while, that struck me as particularly odd, because Glorfindel is the one important person in "The Lord of the Rings" who didn't make it onto the big screen in Peter Jackson's trilogy. Then again, maybe it's the absolute liberty this affords when it comes to depicting this character that made him so interesting...
Whatever it is, goldenhaired Glorfindel continues to inspire me ~ even if I still haven't made up my mind about whether the obvious gold in his colour scheme should best be combined with green or with blue. Tolkien himself said about the cloak of Glorfindel of Gondolin that it looked like a field full of celandines. I'm assuming he meant a field of grass and golden flowers, so here is my interpretation of it.
Glorfindel of Gondolin, ready to lead his men into battle off to a parade before King Turgon. Sans cloak, since that would have messed up my design for the armour. ;)
