'The Canals of Mars' G

Indian ink and watercolour paint

A second illustration for the August issue of ForbiddenFruit. I love it when the deadline isn't just around the corner ~ it allows me to go crazy playing with my art supplies.

When I read the short summary the editors at ForbiddenFruit sent out to the artists, I sat there and thought, "This is going to be impossible to illustrate." And of course, as soon as I'd told myself that, my brain decided to go ahead anyway and ask for the story. Well, I'm happy to say that not only was it a lovely story to read and a fantastic treasure of possible illustrations after all, but I've also had the chance to talk to the author briefly via email. And what can I say? He's a very kind, lovely man, and despite being a famous author and busy working on his new novel, he took the time to answer a few of my questions regarding the details of the picture and to tell me a bit about how he works. Victor, it's been a pleasure! Thank you! :)

The website of Victor J. Banis can be found here. (The story can be found at ForbiddenFruit for the moment though.)
